There are some days you just know you’ll remember forever - and this year's International Day of Happiness was one of them. On Saturday March 22nd, Greyhounds as Pets NSW hosted a series of adoption events across the state to celebrate the joy that adopting a Greyhound brings, and the result? A record-breaking 81 Greyhounds adopted into loving forever homes, the largest ever number for a single weekend!
Spreading happiness from Canberra to Grafton
Held in Canberra, Sydney, Tamworth, Albury and Grafton, the adoption events weren’t just about finding homes - they were about bringing communities together with one purpose; to experience the unmatched joy of Greyhound adoption.
Greyhounds are known for their gentle playful nature, low maintenance and loving temperament, and on Saturday, they showed exactly why they make the perfect pet with plenty of kisses, cuddles, and pats for everyone to enjoy.
The Canberra event stole the show with over 300 attendees and a whopping 39 adoptions on the day, plus another 12 in the lead-up. The sunshine was out, tails were wagging, and happiness was literally in the air.
One hound in particular, Pockets, became a bit of a local star. With over 3,000 visits to her profile! Her charm and beautiful nature clearly struck a chord, with the Greyhounds as Pets NSW team flooded with applications to adopt her! You can view her adoption video here.
Delighted participants
With huge interest and so many dogs finding their forever homes, participants attending the Canberra event were delighted, and particularly complimentary of how GAP’s regional coordinator for the ACT, Marcus Burrell, had helped them prepare their dogs.
“It’s been a great process, very easy, with clear communication. I have all the required information and now know how to prepare my dogs. Marcus has got the best interests of my dogs in mind; he does a great job finding perfect homes for them and I’d recommend GAP to everyone” commented participant Clint Hazlett.
“The first two days were a little challenging, which we expected as she gets used to a completely new environment, and on day 3 she really settled, she is clearly getting used to her new home and now we are getting lots of affection, she’s really playful and is making lots of new friends at the local dog park, and we love it when she joins us on the sofa for a snuggle, she puts a smile on our face every day” commented Shannon.
It is wonderful to know that Maggie is starting to settle into her new forever home where she will thrive and live a very happy life.
Exceptional teamwork
This memorable day was only possible thanks to the hard work and outstanding teamwork of our staff, industry participants, volunteers, handlers, and local partners across the state. A huge thank you to you all for helping to bring happiness to every home and hound.
