DIY Homemade Breath Mints

Loving your greyhound means accepting them for their quirks but it doesn’t mean you need to put up with bad breath.
We’ve got some DIY breath mint recipes that you can try at home, which are packed with superfood ingredients that will have their breath and tummies feeling fabulous.

Good breath bikkies

These minty bikkies will have your pooch coming back for more.
Ingredients:
·       1 cup rolled oats
·       1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
·       ½ cup maple syrup
·       2 tbsp sunflower oil
·       1 egg
·       3 tbsp finely chopped mint
·       3 tbsp finely chopped parsley
Method:
1.    Preheat the oven to 180º and line two large trays with baking paper
2.    Blend oats in the food processor for 30 seconds (they should be a little rougher than the consistency of flour)
3.    In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, maple syrup, sunflower oil, egg, parsley and mint and mix until dough consistency.
4.    Roll dough out to approx. 50mm in thickness and use a 2.5cm cookie cutter to cut out rounds.
5.    Place rounds onto pre-lined trays and back for 20-25 minutes.
6.    Store biscuits in an airtight container (once they have completed cooled)
Note: Please limit treat to 1 per day as dogs can only consume small amounts of mint and parsley.

Cheesy Mint Biscuits

While the sound of cheese and mint sounds odd to humans, we guarantee
your pooch will love them!
Ingredients:
·       2 cups whole wheat flour
·       ½ cup shredded tasty cheese
·       2 tbsp dried mint
·       1 1/3 cups of water
·       ¼ cup sunflower oil
·       1 egg
Method:
1.    Preheat oven to 180º
2.    Line baking tray with baking paper
3.    Combine all dry ingredients into a bowl
4.    Add water, oil and egg
5.    Mix until it forms a dough consistency (add water if the dough feels too stiff)
6.    Roll dough out to approx. 1cm thickness
7.    Cut with your favourite cookie cutter (we like dog bone shaped)
8.    Bake for 1-1.5 hours

Frozen Minty Yoghurt Pops

There’s nothing more satisfying than a cold treat on a hot day to improve
the breath
Ingredients:
·       1 cup plain Greek yoghurt
·       1 tsp apple cider vinegar
·       ¼ cup mint
·       ¼ cup parsley
·       ¼ cup coconut oil
·       ½ cup grated green apple
Method:
1      Place yoghurt, mint, parsley, coconut oil and apple cider vinegar into the blender and blend to smooth consistency
2      Add grated green apple
3      Pour mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight
4      Store in airtight container in the freezer.
