What’s better than a day spent in the sand and surf? Doing it with your furry companion of course!
Although the NSW coastline isn’t short of beautiful beaches, dog-friendly beaches can be hard to come by. For the most part, dogs are not permitted on beaches (even when they’re leashed). The good news is there are dog-friendly beaches where you and your pooch can let your hair down.

Here are our top 5 picks

Callala Beach Shoalhaven
Located on the beautiful South Coast, Callala Beach boasts an expansive stretch of stunning beach without the crowds. Dogs can enjoy unleashed fun between 4pm – 8am.

McCauley’s Beach, Thirroul
Well known by dog lovers, McCauley Beach is sure to become one of your favourites. This beach is well known by locals for great surfing and access to smaller creeks that are ideal for kids and smaller dogs.

Greenhills Beach, Cronulla
Located north of Cronulla Beach, this spot is the only dog-friendly ocean-facing beach in Sydney. Dogs can stretch their legs and run leash-free between 4pm-10am every day. Although it can get a little busy on sunny days, there is plenty of parking and lots of beach space for everyone to enjoy.

Sirius Cove Reserve, Mosman
This hidden gem is located in Mosman on Sydney’s lower north shore. Small but charming, Sirius Cove Reserve boasts 250m of beachfront with shallow and calm water which is perfect for a relaxed furball-frolic. Dogs are allowed off-leash all day on weekdays and between 4pm – 9am on weekends and public holidays.

Lakes Beach, Budgewoi
Located on the Central Coast, Lakes Beach in Budgewoi ticks all the boxes. Enjoy the picture-perfect white sand, calm water, and expansive beachfront. Dogs are permitted off-leash 24 hours, and when you’re done playing you can enjoy lunch and a puppacino from the local dog-friendly café!
