Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) and Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) staged one of the most successful Adoption Days of 2023 at Dapto Showgrounds last Saturday.
The Adoption Day - which coincided with the Dapto Christmas Markets - attracted a large crowd from across the Illawarra, and by the end of the three-hour event, 15 adopters will have a new family member in their home for Christmas.
“It’s been five years since we held a Greyhound As Pets adoption event at Dapto racecourse, and an activation for it up at Bulli,” GRNSW chief executive officer Rob Macaulay said.
“Judging by the great success of Saturday’s adoption day, you can count on us doing some more, soon. The people of the Illawarra love greyhounds!
“We were absolutely delighted that 15 families will have a new greyhound pet in their homes for Christmas, and also that many, many more people showed great interest on the day which may convert to even more new homes for our wonderful dogs in the region.”
The event proved to be one of the most successful of 2023 for GAP along with the National Adoption Day in April and the Tim Cahill Winter Adoption Day in August.
Among those finding new homes were: Melon, Jacaranda, Ashy, Vee, Rhonda, Giblet, Crackers, and King, who was the first greyhound adoption processed, 30 minutes before the event started.
